Though she certainly put up a valiant fight, her performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u” didn’t stand a chance against Daya, who seemed to get the song in a way her competitors didn’t.

This week, after being tasked with delivering a standup routine in a Ross Matthews Roast, the queen found her jokes landing on mostly deaf ears, and she landed in the bottom for a three-way lip-sync against her original opponent Daya Betty and the season’s other Lip-Sync Assassin Jorgeous. In subsequent challenges, DeJa failed to impress. Unfortunately, her goodwill started to give out after her long-awaited win. From there, she settled into her own, finding her footing as she consistently landed near or at the top, even if a true win eluded her until the season’s highly-anticipated Snatch Game, when her energetic impersonation of Lil Jon had RuPaul and all her fellow competitors in stitches. RuPaul’s acknowledgement of DeJa’s lip-sync prowess definitely seemed to inspire the queen. Such was the case for season 14’s DeJa Skye, a Fresno, California queen who avoided the “first-queen-out” curse by delivering an infectious, emotional rendition of Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’” that gave her the edge over fellow contestant Daya Betty. But sometimes, it can all be worth it if it ends with RuPaul telling you that you just might be the season's Lip-Sync Assassin. RuPaul’s Drag Race season 14 premieres January 7 on VH1.No one wants to land in the bottom on the first episode of a season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. “Honey, it’s definitely a journey to be seen,” Kerri promised, adding, “this season – I’mma just say it now – is a very tran-tastic season, period.” She’s not my drag mom, but I tell her she’s definitely partly my trans mom,” she said. “She’s literally walked me through so much of my transition that no one understands how much she’s done for me personally. Kornbread didn’t hold back when she talked about how much Kerri’s support meant to her. “She’s dealt with every last one of my mood swings she’s dealt with every last one of my body dysmorphia moments.” “When I got to Drag Race, it was definitely me starting everything, and she walked me through a lot of it,” she explained. She told EW that not only was Kerri one of the first people to learn she was transitioning, but that it became the foundation of the bond the two share. It wasn’t only the audience that Kerri has impacted, but her cast mate and fellow trans woman, Kornbread, as well. “I’m so glad that we have that opportunity to showcase it, but not just like be a trendsetter but also open that door so we can just keep it going. “There’s so much of drag that has been influenced by trans women over the years, especially trans women of colour,” she said. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kerri explained how exciting it was to share the impact that trans women have had on drag. And they promise that this season is going to be, well, “transtastic.” For the first time ever, there are two out trans women in the running for the $100,000 cash prize and title of America’s next drag superstar: Kerri Colby and Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté. The season 14 premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race is just days away, but it’s already making history.
